The High Technology laboratories of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), built by the president Leonel Fernandez in 2008-2012, they are working in 25% corresponding to the teaching part, while 75% destined for the research area does not work for lack of equipment and budget.
“That great laboratory, what happens is that it was left unfinished, the equipment was not completed, the building was built and only one part, which is the teacher, was the one that was equipped in the building and that is what we are giving use to” , expressed the dean of the Faculty of Engineering of the UASD, Omar Segurawho highlighted that since the beginning of the last administration, that part of the laboratories was fully used.
Although he acknowledges that the lack of resources keeps the development of the UASD Laboratory limited, he prefers not to give figures regarding the amount needed to bring life back to the gigantic building that is destined to be the great center of scientific investigationnot only from the academic center, but from the entire country.

“A great weakness that we have is that this building was delivered without the power to have resources and without an allocation for operation and maintenance. In more than a decade we have been working with the building and we have not had any type of assignment that can help us to be able to implement in all areas, ”he assured.
As explained Omar Segurain this building where the laboratories of the School of Civil Engineering, School of Electromechanical Engineering, School of Industrial Engineering, School of Chemical Engineering, among others, are located, a major problem is the air conditioning of the infrastructure, which were damaged by disuse as a result of the pandemic.
The also professor of mathematics at the UASD stressed that despite the fact that he has been in office for four weeks, he is preparing the project where the exact amount of investment will come out with all the details, to be taken to the President of the Republic, Louis Abinaderand that all the necessary doors be knocked on to promote the development of this research center.
is remembered
The building was built at a cost of more than 2 billion pesos to house 24 modern laboratories. In 2015, in a solemn act, the keys were delivered by Francisco Pagán, at that time the general director of the OISOE, to whom was the rector of the UASD, Iván Grullón Fernández. The contractor for the work was the engineer Manuel Estrella.
That day it was said that the construction covered an area of 20 thousand square meters and consists of four levels, a metal structure basement with columns covered in concrete and closures in concrete blocks, elevators, electrical installations, sanitary, air conditioning and others.
