Cuban doctors: condemned by the health system

Médicos cubanos, Cuba

MIAMI, United States. — Cuban doctors Alexander Pupo Casas and Alexander Figueredo Izaguirre they reported to CubaNet the vicissitudes that doctors go through on the Island, who are victims of exploitation and mistreatment by the Castro regime,

Bad working conditions, low wages, lack of vacations and other incentives are some of the difficulties faced by medical personnel in Cuba. In recent decades, the island’s doctors have not only been subjected to an abusive labor regime, but have also suffered repression for expressing themselves freely.

Pupo and Figueroro assure that in the Caribbean country any criticism of the public health system can lead to sanctions against doctors. This fact was suffered by both doctors, who denounced the negligence of the Island authorities during the COVID-19 crisis between 2020 and 2021.

“All these situations made me start going out on social media and posting everything I felt. Things that at one point I thought should be changed, but later I realized that they were happening because of the government, because of mismanagement,” Pupo told the damned.

In the case of Figueredo, a native of Granma, he assures that openly opposing the Cuban regime within Cuba is almost a civil death.

“One practically disappears when he begins to tell the truth. You begin to be singled out at the CDR level and other organizations,” said the doctor.

The persecution of the regime prevented the doctors from exercising their profession, which forced them to flee the island to the United States, but not before making a hard journey through Central American countries and Mexico.

In addition to Alexander Pupo and Alexander Figueredo, he participated in the podcast of CubaNet Dr. Emilio Arteaga who also addressed the impact of political violence on Cuban doctors, their families and those who raise their voices against the dictatorship.
