The Sao Paulo joined Flamengo, Corinhtians and Fluminense on Thursday in qualifying for the semi-final of the Brazil Cupthe second tournament in importance of the South American giant and whose winner will also keep the country’s first place in the 2023 Copa Libertadores.
With two goals from Luciano, the tricolor from São Paulo qualified after beating the America Mineiroeliminated at home in the second leg of the quarterfinals, and will now have to face Flamengo in the semifinals.
Sao Paulo entered the field confident after the advantage obtained in the first leg, when they beat America 1-0. The star of the night was Luciano, who opened the scoring after a pass from Néstor in the 22nd minute and almost immediately scored another great goal with the help of Argentine Jonathan Callieri.
América discounted with a penalty from Wellington Paulista near the end of the first half, but the desire was not enough to score the three goals he needed to, at least, go to penalties.
In the quarterfinals Flamengo qualified leaving Athletico Paranaense behind, Corinthians did so by eliminating Atlético Goianiense and Fluminense, knocking out Fortaleza.
The semifinals will involve a duel between teams from Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, since, in addition to Sao Paulo-Flamengo, Corinthians, also from São Paulo, will face Fluminense, also from Rio de Janeiro.
