The Minister of Mines and Energy, Irene Vélez, and the president of Naturgas, Stella Murgas, met to discuss issues of transition and energy security. The meeting took place after the controversial declarations of the minister who assured that the importation of gas from Venezuela could be contemplated, in case the country’s reserves were exhausted.

After the meeting, the leader of the Mines and Energy portfolio and the president of Naturgas highlighted that They will work on a joint agenda to achieve the goals of the new government in terms of the use of cleaner energy.
During the meeting, Vélez assured that the new government’s commitment is to accelerate the energy transition without putting the country’s sovereignty and independence at risk.

“We will promote the decarbonization of the industry to migrate towards a model that does not depend on extractive industries. For this reason, we announce that we will promote and support the development of current contracts to maintain self-sufficiency and supply to more than the almost 11 million of Colombian families that today have a better quality of life thanks to the benefits of natural gas”said the minister.
For his part, Murgas recalled that gas is considered a green energy source in a context of transition to renewable energiesgiven that its greenhouse gas emissions are lower, as well as the production of particulate matter.

Given this, Vélez recognized its importance and stated that for this reason the 170 exploration and production contracts that have already been signed will be prioritized.
