Within the framework of the activity “The Broad Front Listens to You” in the department of Río Negro, Pereira pointed out that his political force carried out “profound transformations in Uruguay, like no other government has done in Latin America,” and acknowledged that they also made mistakes .

He added that the Broad Front is trying to correct its mistakes and will propose to come back with a transformative project that gives Uruguayans hope that another Uruguay is possible.

Regarding the current Accountability of the government, which is being discussed in Parliament, he indicated that “it is not accountable to the Uruguayans, nor is it accountable for what happened in Uruguay between 2020 and 2021.” In this sense, he questioned “the reduction of social spending in a country that has 66 thousand new poor, and the reduction in education and health.”

“It’s an Accountability designed for the lobby, but not to solve people’s problems,” said the president of the FA.

He stressed that Accountability does not attend to the University of the Republic, nor to science and this causes the emigration of scientists, the “brain drain”.

Inflation and salary

Pereira questioned the increase in inflation that is currently outside the target range established by the Central Bank of Uruguay.

“Before, people bought oil for 38 pesos and now they buy it for 108 pesos. Making a barbecue on the weekend is a tenth of salary. This is the target range that people understand. That is scarcity, ”she remarked.

He added that Uruguayans consume 6% less and this is due to lower wages and pensions.

He rejected the restrictive policy from the salary point of view and that prices are not controlled, because the quality of life is deteriorating, and if the 100,000 Uruguayans who eat in popular pots are added to this, the situation is very complex.

He also lamented that “today, two out of ten Uruguayan children are poor.”
