Public education will be from the age of 3, says Abinader

Educación pública será desde los 3 años, dice Abinader

Santo Domingo.- In defending his work of government in the first two years of his administration, the President of the Republic, Louis Abinaderannounced this Tuesday that as of September public initial education will begin, from the age of 3, which is currently from the age of 5.

“Starting in September we will begin the expansion of education for boys and girls from the age of 3. That is why we are working so that the majority of the population of that age can already be in basic schools for the school year of September 2023 », she said.

The president delivered a speech, Tuesday night, from the city of Santiago de los Caballeros, on the occasion of the commemoration of the 159th anniversary of the Restoration of the Republic, a feat that returned the country to its status as a Spanish colony, after the annexation made by General Pedro Santana (1861).

“It is understandable that the opposition does not believe that we are building three extensions of the UASD (Autonomous University of Santo Domingo) with the same budget, at current prices, as what they spent only on the construction of the UASD parking lot in Santo Domingo in 2011. Or that the expansion of the Metro to Los Alcarrizos costs 25% less per linear kilometer than it did 15 years ago”, said the Head of State.

In addition, he said that his Government has awarded, thanks to renegotiation with universities, 20% more national and international scholarships with the same budget, reaching more than 20,000, in just two years.

“This year we were able to get the degrees of our 11 medical schools recognized by the American Council on Medical Education. This represents an important recognition for our doctors and will lead to young people from anywhere in the world being able to come to study medicine in the Dominican Republic with federal loans,” added Abinader.

support for women

In addition, he highlighted the programs that his government has launched in favor of the female sector during the first years of his administration.

“If we talk about education, progress and the future, we also have to talk about an inclusive and equal society in which women do not continue to suffer unfair discrimination. Women are the fundamental pillar of society and of families, for this reason, in all the social and economic policies of our government, it is established how they are going to benefit, “said the president.

He cited that 62% of PROMIPIME loans are intended for women’s microenterprises, and that of the more than 26,000 property titles that have been delivered, 65% have been to women.
