The Ministry of Health (Minsa), confirmed this Wednesday two new cases of Covid-19, with the new omicron variant in the country.
These two new cases correspond to the six suspects who were announced on Monday, whose evidence was being analyzed genomically by the Gorgas Memorial Institute for Health Studies (ICGES). The rest of the other cases are still under laboratory surveillance.
One of the cases belongs to the Metropolitan Health Region, and it is a 35-year-old male, who is vaccinated with two doses against Covid-19 and with a recent travel history to Colombia.
The other case corresponds to the San Miguelito Health Region and corresponds to a 27-year-old male, with two doses of vaccine applied. She presented with a sore throat and cough.
Both cases are kept in quarantine and it must be remembered that they have been detected thanks to the traceability applied by the authorities from the first case of omicron detected last Sunday, December 19.
Epidemiological report
The Department of Epidemiology of the Minsa, revealed that worldwide, until this Wednesday, December 21, 276,681,686 confirmed accumulated cases of Covid-19 and 5,388,050 deaths are reported for a fatality of 2%.
In Panama, 484,793 confirmed accumulated cases of Covid-19 are reported, of which 668 are new cases. In the last 24 hours there were no deaths and there is a cumulative 7,405 deaths for a fatality of 1.5%.
The number of recovered increased to 472,731, of which 333 are new recovered. In the last hours 10,688 tests were applied for a positivity of 6.2%.
Active cases are counted at 4,657, of which 4,503 are in home isolation and 154 hospitalized. Those who are in isolation are divided into 4,359 at home and 144 in hotels. There are 136 hospitalized in wards and 18 in ICU.
