Olimpia wins 2-0 in the superclásico

Olimpia beat its historic rival, Cerro Porteño, 2-0 this Sunday, in a heated Paraguayan soccer superclassic in which the Uruguayan Alejandro Silva and the Argentine Federico Carrizo were expelled.

Brian Montenegro, at minute 8, and Derlis González scored in Dean’s victory on the sixth date of the Closing Tournament of the local championship, which is led by Cerro Porteño with 13 units.

With this result, Franjeado climbed to third place, tied on 12 points with champion Libertad, who is second.

Olimpia imposed its rhythm from the first quarter of the game, thanks to a goal from Montenegro.

The Asunción striker opened the scoring with a shot that managed to cross the right corner of the goal and slipped into the net defended by Brazilian goalkeeper Jean Fernandes.

The advantage detracted from the strength of the Barrio Obrero Cyclone, which was unable to advance dangerously towards the opposite area.

The most critical moment was experienced at minute 44, when a struggle between Richard Ortiz (Olimpia) and Carrizo (Cerro Porteño) turned in a matter of seconds into a whirlwind of players and members of the coaching staff in which even the coach was trapped of Olympia, Julio César Cáceres.

In the midst of the confusion, Guillemo Paiva (Cerro Porteño) grabbed Silva by the neck, who, minutes later, saw the red card along with Carrizo.

When the commitment seemed resolved, González intercepted a pass in the middle of the field and advanced with the ball controlled to the Azulgrana team’s goal, where he managed to overtake a Fernandes who ended up lying on the grass, while the fans celebrated at full lung at the Manuel Ferreira stadium.

The spirits on the field remained heated until the final whistle, forcing the Paraguayan referee Eber Aquino to show the yellow card several times.

In the other matches of the day, Libertad thrashed Sol de América 4-1 on Saturday and Guaireña won 2-1 on October 12.

Later Guaraní and Nacional will play and this Monday Ameliano and General Caballero JLM will face each other, as well as Tacuary and Resistencia SC.
