Officialism defines candidate and Wiens starts the bid for the presidency

In recent hours, the name of the current Minister of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) Arnoldo Wiens, sounded strong in the ranks of the ruling Republican Force movement (former Añetete), as a candidate to replace Hugo Velázquez.

Previously, Wiens had taken center stage as a serious candidate of the ruling party, because the vice president of the republic (resigning) did not enjoy good acceptance by the adherents of the movement, but he did not prosper, leaving Velázquez as the representative.

And finally, after the latest events, which caused Velázquez to dismount his presidential aspirations and feel uncertainty in the ranks of the ruling party, about who would be his replacement, the name of Arnoldo Wiens regained strength, according to sources close to the ruling party.

WITH A VIEW TO THE INTERNAL

In the absence of an official presentation, with a view to the internal partisans on December 18, Arnoldo Wiens and Juan Manuel Brunetti make up the new Republican Force badge, which will be presented this Sunday at 10:00 at the movement’s Command Post (San Martin corner Agustín Pío Barrios).

WHO IS ARNOLDO WIENS?

He was born on August 19, 1964 in Itacurubí de la Cordillera. He is married to Verónika Wiens, and is the father of four children. His secondary studies were at the Philadelphia School in Boquerón. He continued his education at the Biblical Institute of Buenos Aires (IBA) and at the International Baptist Theological Seminary of Buenos Aires where he obtained a Doctorate in Theology.

He taught at the Asunción Evangelical Mennonite Center of Theology (Cemta), and at the Asunción Biblical Institute. From 1996 to 2011 he was executive director of Obedira Comunicacion Integral and the Red de Comunicacion Integral (RCI). He hosted the successful program “Siglo a Siglo” on Red Guaraní for 9 years (2003 – 2011).

HIS BEGINNINGS IN POLITICS

His inclusion in politics took place in 2011 when he was a pre-candidate for the President of the Republic for the Republican Value movement, failing to reach the presidency, he ran for a seat in the Upper House for the period from 2013 to 2018.

As a senator for the ANR, he was president of the Committee on Energy, Natural Resources, Population, Environment, Production and Sustainable Development. Likewise, he is a member of the Commissions for Constitutional Affairs, Prevention and Fight against Drug Trafficking.

He was a member of the Education, Culture and Sports Commission of the Chamber of Senators and president of the Permanent Commission of the National Congress (Parliamentary Recess Period) from December 2013 to March 2014 and head of the Special Commission for the Study of the Yacyretá Treaty. In addition, he was a member of the Governing Board of the Colorado Party (2015-2020) and a Mercosur parliamentarian elected for the period (2018-2023) by the Colorado Party. He assumed the title of the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) on August 15, 2018, a position he currently holds.

Juan Manuel Brunetti, was former Minister of Education and Sciences, former Minister of Information and Communication Technologies (Mitic), founder of the San Carlos University, one of the educational centers recognized as one of the best places to work in Paraguay, has positioned himself as a reference in Agribusiness, with more than 6,500 students, 450 officials and teachers.

Brunetti has a master’s degree in business administration and a doctorate in education, he is a substitute member of the National Council for Higher Education (Cones). Alternate member of the National Council of Science and Technology (Conacyt).

In turn vice president of the Association of Private Universities of Paraguay (APUP). Participation in Guilds Founder, former treasurer and former secretary of the Club of Executives of Paraguay. Member of the Board of Directors of the Paraguayan Association of Quality. Honorary Consul General of the Eastern Republic of Uruguay. Former president of the Paraguayan Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies (Asatur).
