The Cuban Conflict Observatory (OCC) has organized the contest What do you know about Gaesa? who are invited to participate to all Cubans residing on the Island.
To do this, they have to answer one of the following questions: “Do you have any explanation as to why so much is invested in hotels if since 2018 half of the rooms have been empty?” the money for hotels in maintenance of thermoelectric plants, in food production, construction of houses, in health and medicine or in the system of lightning rods based on supertankers in Matanzas?”, “Why is Gaesa not accountable to the Office of the Comptroller General of the Republic of Cuba ?” and “How do you think these problems with Gaesa will be resolved?”.
The answers must be sent, before next October 10, by email to the address [email protected] or by Whatsapp, to the number +1 305 926 0852.
The contest offers a first prize of 300 dollars, a second prize of 250 dollars and three third prizes of 100 dollars, in addition to five award-winning mentions with telephone recharges

In its statement made public this Thursday, the OCC recalls that the Grupo de Administración Empresarial SA (Gaesa) is “an umbrella company” controlled by some Army generals that “represents 60% of the national economy and more than 40% of the hotel rooms in Cuba, without the obligation to account for their income to the Cuban people”.
The origin of the funds dedicated to the construction of hotels remains a mystery, in fact, since the Government has not announced any large-scale foreign investment in that sector controlled by the Gaesa military.
Last year, the Observatory also mentions, it invested 157 times less in Health than in hotels and real estate servicesand 366 times less in Education, the two achievements historically voiced by the propaganda of the Cuban regime.
The organization warns participants that they do not need to submit their name, only a pseudonym, but they do ask that they state the province of residence, gender, age and the best way to communicate with them.
The winners will be announced by email and in a press release on October 20, 2022.
