FGR seeks to impute the crime of illegal exploitation of the subsoil to the owner of the El Pinabete mine

The Attorney General of Mexico (FGR) requested a court hearing to charge the alleged owner of a coal mine where 10 miners have been trapped for just over a week, the entity said in a statement.

For his responsibility in the direction and administration of the precarious mine, Cristian Solís will be accused for the alleged crime of “illegal exploitation of the subsoil” in the town of Sabinas, in the northern state of Coahuila, where the collapsed mine is located on Wednesday of last week.

Until the day before, the rescue teams had not been able to make contact with the miners, so it is unknown if they are alive. The large amount of water debris and poor visibility have prevented rescueaccording to authorities.

The group became trapped after their excavation work caused a tunnel wall to collapse, causing parts of the mine to flood.
