The movie MOAs Cuban filmmaker Marcel Beltrán received today the most important award in the “Open Doors” section of the Locarno Festival, which celebrates its two decades as a platform to help filmmakers from developing countries.
According to a report from EphIn addition to receiving the first prize (an allocation of about 36,000 euros for the production or development of the project), MOA -produced by Paula Gastaud- was awarded the ARTE Kino International prize, endowed with 6,000 euros.
Bolivian director Yashira Jordán and her film were also honored with a double award. Diamondin addition to a second prize that will allow it to participate in the Southern Film Festival in Oslo, Norway, next November.
Another important award went to the film Boys Bathing in the Lakeby Michael Labarca, from Venezuela, who will receive a grant of more than 15,000 euros.
Another Cuban filmmaker, José Luis Aparicio Ferreira -selected for “Open Doors” for his short film Tundra– will carry out a two-month residency in the Swiss town of Winterthur, where a well-known international short film festival is held every November.

“Open Doors” is a Swiss initiative to promote a more diverse film industry and with this edition -in which the Locarno Festival celebrates its 75th anniversary- it begins a three-year period dedicated to Latin America and the Caribbean.
This year it has received eight feature film projects in search of international partners, in addition to nine producers and producers and 17 directors and directors. The program is financially supported by the Swiss Federal Agency for Cooperation, according to the report.
