The new Colombian president receives the command in a transmission ceremony in the Plaza de Bolívar in Bogotá, Colombia, before 15,000 people, where as special guests are the presidents of Chile, Gabriel Boric; Rodrigo Chaves, from Costa Rica; the president of Honduras, Xiomara Castro; that of Argentina, Alberto Fernández; from Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso; from Paraguay, Mario Abdo Benítez, and from Panama, Laurentino Cortizo, and King Felipe VI, from Spain, among others.
Mexican President López Obrador did not attend, but sent Foreign Minister Ebrard and his wife Gutiérrez Müller on his behalf, the latter was received on Saturday by the foreign minister of the host country, Martha Lucía Ramírez de Rincón, as the writer recorded on her social networks .
On Instagram Gutiérrez published a photograph with the Colombian official and a greeting to the compatriots who reside in that nation. “It has been a pleasure to greet Foreign Minister Martha Lucía Ramírez de Rincón again at the airport. I wish her the best in her new tasks and activities. Greetings to all Mexicans who live in this beautiful country, and may tomorrow be a great day for the people of Colombia,” she said.
“My president Andrés Manuel López Obrador has commissioned me to represent him at the inauguration of the next president, Gustavo Petro,” he wrote.
Meanwhile, Ebrard took advantage of his visit to Colombia to hold various meetings with the president of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso, and with that of Costa Rica, Rodrigo Chaves. He also met with other foreign ministers from friendly countries, with whom he agreed to deepen agreements.
On his Twitter account, the Mexican foreign minister broadcast his conversation with his Portuguese counterpart, Minister João Gomes, with whom it would have been agreed to work for the ratification of the Mexico agreement with the European Union.
It was agreed, he wrote, “to carry out a trade mission of Portuguese companies to Mexico in 2022 and continue working for the ratification of the Mexico-EU Agreement.”
The foreign minister also met with the vice president of Peru, Dina Ercilia, with whom they exchanged points on the transfer of the Pacific Alliance (PPT), the installation of working groups on the lithium industry and the aerospace and energy sectors.
Meanwhile, he spoke with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Palestine, Riyad al Maliki. Both signed a memorandum to establish a consultation mechanism on matters of common interest, for bilateral, regional and international issues.
Gutiérrez’s diplomatic work
Gutiérrez Müller, historian, writer and wife of López Obrador, does not hold public office, but is honorary president of the Historical and Cultural Memory Advisory Council. She, however, has made several international tours and visits in the current time of mandate.
In October 2020, he traveled to Europe on a tour whose mission was to manage the return to Mexico of various archaeological pieces. In France he met with the wife of President Emmanuel Macron, Brigitte Macron, and in Rome with the President of the Republic of Italy, Sergio Mattarella, and in Austria with the President of that nation, Alexander van der Bellen, whom he asked for the plume of Moctezuma, guarded in the Ethnographic Museum of Vienna.
On October 10, 2020, he even held a meeting with Pope Francis, in the Vatican.
In March 2022, he attended the inauguration of Gabriel Boric as president of Chile, but before that he made a diplomatic tour of Argentina where he met with President Alberto Fernández.
On May 5, at the invitation of Jill Biden, the wife of the president of the United States, Joe Biden, went to Washington to commemorate the Battle of Puebla.
Later, he joined López Obrador’s tour of Central America, which took place in El Salvador, Honduras, Belize and Cuba.
