The National Institute of Employment and Professional Training (Inefop) and AWS re/Start presented a free course that will allow 80 unemployed young people between 18 and 24 years of age to develop socio-emotional, labor and technical skills for cloud computing (“cloud computing”).
Those who complete the 16-week training will be contacted by the Forge Foundation to begin the work stage in companies in the sector. The activity, which took place in the Executive Tower assembly hall, was attended by the Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining, Omar Paganini; the head of Labor and Social Security, Pablo Mieres; the general director of the National Institute of Employment and Vocational Training (Inefop), Pablo Darscht; the regional executive director of Forge, Rodrigo Kon, and the director of the Public Sector for the Southern Cone at Amazon Web Services (AWS), Lorena Zicker.
In his speech, Paganini explained that the proposal arose from the memorandum of understanding signed in September 2021 with AWS, one of whose objectives is to promote training instances for the information technology and software industry. He also argued that the course is relevant for the country due to the significant growth of this type of company, which reached more than 1,000 million dollars in service exports in 2021.
“Uruguay demonstrated the maturity of its industry, but it has to take a leap to position itself as an innovation hub in the region,” he considered, adding that one of the difficulties is the development of talent with the necessary knowledge in this industry. area. “These types of programs should be multiplied,” he reflected.
This teaching option will use the virtual platform of Forge, an organization that will also collaborate in the selection of applicants and their subsequent link with the formal labor market.
For his part, Minister Pablo Mieres said that the program is a strong sign of employment policies. He also stressed that the training will enable the acquisition of key skills for the current and future world, as well as access to jobs linked to the digital sector.
“All the efforts dedicated to seeking a response that has young people as beneficiaries and recipients is an absolute challenge and is among the first concerns of this Government,” he assured.
Darscht, meanwhile, said that this initiative is in line with Inefop’s strategic criteria of relevance and quality and that it is part of the agency’s plan, which involves various levels of intervention and seeks to generate capacities in the country’s economically active population.
Young people from six Latin American countries participate in the AWS Re/start program and 142 people have graduated. In the case of the proposal in Uruguay, two groups of 40 students will be selected. Virtual classes will be held from Monday to Friday between 5:00 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Applications can be accessed through the Inefop space on the Forge website.
