Municipalities and Intendances will be able to access more funds with the Territorial Economic Development Initiatives Program

The Planning and Budget Office (OPP) will finance projects at the national level for a total of more than 40 million pesos, summoning mayors and municipalities to present proposals that promote local economic development.

As of July 15 and until August 15, the intendancies and municipalities of Uruguay will be able to present proposals to access the funds of the “Territorial Economic Development Initiatives Program”, with the purpose of promoting projects that promote the development and coordinated management between different levels of government and private actors.

In the case of departmental governments, the projects must be aimed at promoting and strengthening the value chains of productive sectors in the territory; while in the case of municipal governments, it seeks to stimulate the presentation of projects aimed at promoting the improvement of employment and income opportunities, through coordinated action with the departmental governments and with the actors of the territory, public and private.

The municipalities will be able to access financing of up to a maximum of $U 1,500,000 (one million five hundred thousand Uruguayan pesos) granted by OPP. This amount is added to a local counterpart, as well as the contribution of private actors.

In the case of the financing of the projects presented by municipalities, they may request OPP financing of up to $U 200,000 (two hundred thousand Uruguayan pesos), also requesting a local counterpart, plus the contribution of the private actor.

The projects will be executed between the years 2022 and 2023. In the case of the municipalities, 10 projects will be selected that will begin this year and 9 for the next; In the case of municipalities, 30 projects will be selected for 2022 and 30 for 2023.
