Monaco and PSV Eindhoven draw, Benfica thrashes in Champions League preview

Hoy Paraguay

Monaco and PSV Eindhoven neutralized each other (1-1) this Tuesday in the first leg of the third qualifying round for the Champions League, while Benfica thrashed Midtjylland (4-1) and Rangers were surprised by the St.Gilloise (2-0).

For many minutes behind on the scoreboard against the Dutch PSV, after a goal with Joey Veerman’s left foot at the entrance of the area, Monaco equalized through Disasi (80′), an opportunist in a confused action inside the area.

Philippe Clement’s men will have to seek passage to the next round at the PSV Stadion in a week.

“It’s a good result. The match was balanced and the draw reflects the match well”, said PSV coach Ruud Van Nistelrooy.

A little later, Benfica Lisbon comfortably dominated Danish Midtjylland (4-1). A hat-trick by Gonçalo Ramos (17′, 33′ and 61′) and a goal by Argentine Enzo Fernández (40′) allowed the team from Lisbon to get a foot in the playoffs, the last round-trip stage before the lucrative presence in the group stage.

And the Scottish Rangers, finalists of the last Europa League, see this group stage further after losing to Royale Union Saint-Gilloise (2-0), in Belgium.

In the other matches of the night, Dinamo Zagreb beat Ludogorets (2-1) in Bulgaria and Sheriff Tiraspol, who last season surprised Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu, lost to Viktoria Plzen ( 2-1).
