Organized motorcycle clubs reject a bill that proposes to eliminate passengers from motorcycles

A few weeks ago, deputy Mayín Correa presented a bill to prohibit motorcycles from traveling with passengers.

Correa’s argument before the plenary is due to the fact that there has been an increase in homicides committed through the use of motorcycles, and he assured that it is the barbecue who shoots or threatens the victim to rob him.

Along the same lines, Curtis Blackman, spokesman for organized motorcycle groups and clubs in Panama, said that this bill is an offense, “because when we acquire a vehicle like this, the Single Vehicle Registry tells us that it is two passengers”.

He added that it is sad to know that by law, a vehicle that someone bought for two passengers, they tell the person that they cannot use it with their partner, child or any other person.

Blackman considered this draft as a mistake by some deputies who seek to make laws without thinking that people need the basis of transportation.

Regarding the issue of contract killings, he said that most of the homicides are carried out in sedans or the well-known “picantos”, not on motorcycles, as stated by deputy Mayín Correa.
