The National Consumer Price Index 15 (IPCA-15), the preview of official inflation, was 0.13% in July. The rate is lower than those of June this year (0.69%) and July 2021 (0.72%).
The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) reported today (26), in Rio de Janeiro, that this is the lowest monthly rate of the IPCA-15 since June 2020 (0.02%). The indicator accumulates inflation of 5.79% in the year and 11.39% in 12 months.
The biggest impact of the preview of inflation in July came from the food and beverage group, with a price increase of 1.16% in the period, above the 0.25% of the preview in June.
Among the foods that most contributed to the rise in prices is long-life milk, which rose 22.27% in the period. Dairy products also had inflation: requeijão (4.74%), butter (4.25%) and cheese (3.22%). Other products that stood out were fruits (4.03%), carioca beans (4.25%) and French bread (1.47%).
Deflation
Transport was the expenditure that most contributed to contain the preview of inflation in July. They recorded deflation (falling prices) of 1.08% in the period. In the preview of June, the group had registered inflation of 0.84%.
The result in July was influenced by falls in fuel prices (-4.88%), especially gasoline (-5.01%) and ethanol (-8.16%). At the same time, airline tickets rose 8.13%.
The other groups of expenses had the following price changes: clothing (1.39%), personal expenses (0.79%), health and personal care (0.71%), household items (0.39%), education (0.07%), communication (-0.05%) and housing (-0.78%).
