The Directory of Terminal Cuenca del Plata (TCP) chose the builder Jan de Nul to carry out the reform works you need to extend the container terminal.

TCP, majority owned by the Belgian multinational Katoen Natie (80%) and with the participation of the State (20%), had been involved in recent months in a process of receiving and selecting the offers received from different construction groups.

As I had anticipated The Observer, Jan de Nul (Belgium) was the one with the best proposal, but the definition had to be taken by the TCP Directory. The work plan for the extension of TCP’s concession in the port of Montevideo, signed between the government and Katoen Natie, includes the construction of a new docking pier to receive ships at a depth of 14 meters. Also, the construction of a container yard and a series of improvements to the Sarandí Breakwater.

Works are expected to begin as soon as government permits are granted. The goal is for the first part of the berth to be inaugurated in 2024 and the rest of the works to be completed a year later. For construction it is planned to have 1,000 direct jobs.

Jan de Nul will be responsible for the entire development of the project and will have the collaboration of the construction companies Mota-Engil (Portugal) and styler From Uruguay. The local construction company will be the one that provides the largest amount of labor.
