The City convenes a public hearing to set the increase in the subway

After the Government of the City of Buenos Aires announced that the rate of the subway will increase in the coming weeks, the date for the public hearing in which the value of the ticket will be determined was announced.

The hearing was convened by the local Government and Subterráneos de Buenos Aires SE (SBASE), a company that provides the service of the subwayfor next August 26: details about the increase will be delivered there for the transportation systemwhich is estimated to be 40%.

More than a million users will be affected by the rise.

The meeting will take place virtually and will also be enabled for citizens. There will be announced the new rate schedule for the subway with the increase, so the ticket will be $42.

Those interested in participating in the hearing must register from July 29 to August 22, through an email that must be sent toaudienciaspublicas@buenosaires.gob.ar or by telephone at 1153268471, from Monday to Friday from 11: 00 to 16:00 hours.

The increases in public transport will impact inflation in the coming months.

Although it is not yet defined, it is expected that the increase will take effect from September, after the hearing is held, in which the Premetro increase will also be set.

From April 2021, the passage of the subway it’s at $30; nevertheless, since then, operating costs have increased by 159%according to the Government, which is why the tariff adjustment is necessary.

The Government has not yet defined when the increase will apply.

“It is necessary to adjust the ticket to guarantee the proper functioning of the service and to focus on a sustainable public transport system,” they said, since the current value of the ticket only covers 14% of the cost of the operation.

Who will continue to benefit?

Although the fee for transport service will increase, special benefits and discounts will be maintained for retirees and pensioners, people with disabilities and people who have received transplants and on the waiting list. These must prove their situation.

The Subway is one of the main means of transportation in the City.

In addition, the student ticket and the social, teacher and student subscription will be maintained for secondary and tertiary school students, who can also travel for free by accrediting that they belong to this population.
