A publication in The New York Times, based on an internal report by the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad on the attacks perpetrated on the Israeli embassy in 1992 and the Amia in 1994 in the City of Buenos Aires, stated that both attacks “were carried out carried out by a secret Hezbollah unit”, which did not have the collaboration of “Argentine citizens or assistance on the ground by Iran”.

The information contradicts what was concluded by the Argentine Justice on the attack on the Jewish mutual in regard to a local connection and the Iranian collaboration in the organization of the attack.

The article mentions an internal study conducted by the Mossad that “offers a detailed account of how the attacks were planned“, including “how the material for the explosives was smuggled into Argentina in shampoo bottles and chocolate boxes.”

“Although Mossad emphasizes that Israeli intelligence still believes that Iran, which backs Hezbollah, approved and financed the attacks and provided the training and equipment, the findings refute long-held claims by Israel, Argentina and the United States that Tehran had an operational role,” says the text published this Friday by the American newspaper.

In that context, the article stated that the investigation “also refutes suspicions in Argentina that local officials and citizens had been complicit in the attacks.”

According to the publication, the conclusions “are based on information gathered from interrogations with suspects, surveillance, wiretaps and agents.”

“The conclusions of the internal reports were confirmed in interviews conducted this month with five senior current and retired Mossad officials,” the New York media reported.

The attack on the Israeli embassy was perpetrated in 1992 and caused 22 deaths, while the attack on the Amia took place in 1994 and caused the death of 85 people. Both attacks left hundreds of people injured.
