At least one person per day requests the rectification of their DNI with the nomenclature Xto identify their non-binary identity, one year after the implementation of the presidential decree that provided access to this right, reported the Ministry of the Interior.
Decree 476/2021 provided that the National Registry of Persons (Renaper) “must adapt the characteristics and nomenclatures of the IDs and Passports it issues, exclusively, in order to comply with the provisions of Law No. 26,743 “, referring to the gender identity law approved in Argentina on May 24, 2012.
According to data released by the Interior on its official Twitter account, since the entry into force of the decree, 528 people agreed to rectify their DNI with the nomenclature X.
This figure represents 20.8% of the total registration changes made in the last year.
Another piece of information provided by the body is that 55.5% of the people who accessed the right are between 19 and 29 years old.
Most of the corrections they were made in the province of Buenos Aires (43%), City of Buenos Aires (20.8%), Mendoza (5.1%), Neuquén (4.2%), Córdoba (3.8%) and Santa Fe ( 3.4%).

Meanwhile, in the same social network, the Ministry of Women, Gender and Diversity, recalled that the nomenclature X in the ‘sex’ field that must be completed in the DNI or passport includes the meanings: non-binary, indeterminate, unspecified, indefinite, not reported, self-perceived, not consigned; or another meaning with which the person who does not feel included in the masculine/feminine binomial could identify.
