During this day, the head of the bench of the DC senators, Ximena Rincón; Deputy Chief Matías Walker; the head of the bench of DC deputies, Eric Aedo; and deputies Joanna Pérez and Jorge Saffirio valued the government’s position regarding the projects to modify the quorum for constitutional reforms to 4/7 and indicated that they support the government’s veto of the critical infrastructure project, which empowers the President to dispose of the Armed Forces to protect this framework without the need to apply a State of Exception.
“Today the Chamber is going to vote the critical infrastructure veto and the Senate is going to finally process the constitutional reform of 4/7. And we believe that important steps must be taken to advance in guaranteeing having a good and new constitution. And for that it is essential to have this reduction in quorums,” said Senator Ximena Rincón.
Likewise, the head of the bench of the DC senators, pointed out that “the President of the Republic has told us to put ourselves in all the scenarios and that is what we have done, and what corresponds from politics.”
“From the government they have expressed themselves in favor of us advancing with this project (of 4/7) and in the reduction of LOC quorums presented by colleagues from the PS. In this way, legislative efforts are complemented and we are making clear progress in that country in which all of us are welcomed. And that requires conversation and agreements. And put on the agenda the issues that matter to citizens. That is why it was so important to advance in critical infrastructure, crime and the economy”, added the DC parliamentarian.

For his part, the deputy chief of the DC senators, Matías Walker, highlighted that the government has validated the status of Critical Infrastructure. “At the beginning, Minister Jackson said that he did not agree with us processing this project, because he was not contemplated in the new Constitution. And it is true, but the government itself realized that it was important to request the collaboration of the Armed Forces in conjunction with Carabineros to take care of basic services.”
“We are going to continue working to have a new and good constitution together with the great majority of citizens who are demonstrating,” added Walker.
Meanwhile, the head of the bench of the DC deputies, Eric Aedo, affirmed that as a bench they will “support the veto of critical infrastructure, because we understand that the security of the men and women of Chile is the priority.”
“I celebrate that the government has entered into the discussion of a project that Chileans longed for and that is the security of the people. The government understood that it is the people’s priority, and that is why we are going to decisively support the government’s veto. And I hope that in the Senate this project to reduce quorums to 4/7 advances, which is the master key to continue with the constitutional change that Chileans want”, concluded Aedo.
