The mining sector generated more than 240 thousand jobs in October

Last October, the sector generated 240,788 direct jobs, which represents a growth of 26.7% compared to that reported in the same month last year (189,972 ), reported the Ministry of Energy and Mines () through the Mining Statistical Bulletin (BEM).

The BEM figures also indicate that the average employment generated in the period from January to October 2021 was 223,817 workers, which reflects an increase of 26% compared to the annual average for 2020 (177,692 workers). In this way, it was evidenced in October 2021, employment levels higher than those obtained during the last 10 years.

At the regional level, Áncash maintains the leadership with 32,116 direct jobs in mining that represent 13.3% of the national total; Arequipa is in second place with 30,207 jobs that are equivalent to 12.5% ​​of what was registered; while Moquegua is in third position with 27,779 workers (11.5% of total jobs).

It should be noted that the results of Áncash, Arequipa and Moquegua correspond to the companies Compañía Minera Antamina SA, Sociedad Minera Cerro Verde SAA and Anglo American Quellaveco SA, respectively.

Regarding the type of employer, the jobs generated by mining contractors (mining contractors and related companies) represented 73.3% of the total, which represents an interannual increase of 37.5%. While the employment generated by the mining companies was 26.7% of the total participation, which meant an increase of 4.4% compared to what was declared in October 2020.
