Rural Federation asked the government to remove the director of INBA

cromo

The Rural Federation (FR) asked the government to remove the executive director of the National Institute of Animal Welfare (INBA), Gastón Cossia, due to “a bad internal relationship that comes from the beginning of the INBA,” he confirmed to The Observer Monica Silva, president of the union.

As detailed, in the institute “there is a common denominator, that bad relationship is a fact and that it hurts the results”.

The FR has promoted dialogue in search of solutions, he explained, “and it has not come to fruition.”

This topic was one of those that the FR analyzed in an extraordinary council, held in Molles this Saturday. There, the assembled producers decided to request the government to remove Cossia because they understood that “her profile and performance have not met the expectations of the position,” and that effective measures are lacking to solve the non-responsible keeping of dogs, they said in a statement released after the meeting.

In an interview with Telenoche, Cossia said that the union’s request surprised him because “there is always dialogue.” And he said that he will wait for the decision of the President of the Republic.

Silva informed The Observer that the request for the cessation of Cossia in his functions has already been transmitted to the government.

“Action must be taken today”

He then argued that one of the major problems related to animal welfare is the non-responsible keeping of dogs, which for livestock production has been a problem, since many production animals continue to suffer attacks by dogs that are loose.

“If we talk about animal welfare, let’s talk about all animals. We feel that the sheep is unprotected ”, he commented.

The president of the FR mentioned that loose dogs are a problem in the countryside and in the cityAs not only animals are attacked, but also people. As he said, in recent days the union met in Salto with the Veterinary and Medicine academies, who presented the problem “with great concern.”

“The loose dogs are a problem for people, there are accidents, bitten children and zoonosis problems,” he said, and remarked: “Chipping is fine, but action must be taken today, and they depend on the Executive”.

The bugger fly

Another of the topics discussed at the congress was that of bug fly and the national eradication plan promoted by the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP). Silva explained that the plan “comes walking” and now they are waiting for new news about the governance and financing of it.

The union understands that advancing in the implementation of the plan is a “priority”, and for that reason he urged the government to advance in its definition in order to take a position on its participation.

“We know that the project is in Opypa (Office of Agricultural Programming and Policies) and we hope to have news in the next few days, “added the president.

The union in defense of the LUC

The third topic discussed in the congress was the defense of the Urgent Consideration Law before the referendum to which it will be submitted in 2022. The union was in favor of supporting and defending the law, mainly for three topics that are included in it that they see with very good eyes: financial inclusion in rural areas, self-defense and rural security.

“It was unanimously, we all supported the defense of the LUC, because it has brought very positive things to the sector,” he concluded.
