The Electric Union of Cuba (UNE) predicted for this Wednesday another day with power outages on the island due to a lack of electricity. generation.
the state company communicated that the estimated affectation in the so-called night peak hours will be 377 megawatts (MW) since the availability is 2,643 MW and the demand is 2,950 MW. In addition, he estimated that the service will be restored around 3:00 in the morning tomorrow.
During the daytime, the effects will be even greater and will be around 600 MW.

The presumed reduction of the deficit at night is based on the announced entry of units 4 and 5 of the Diez de Octubre Thermoelectric Power Plant (CTE) with 70 and 100 MW respectively, the completion of unit 1 of the CTE Ernesto Guevara with 55 MW and the use of 138 MW in diesel engines.
In fact, unit 1 of Ernesto Guevara has already synchronized with the island’s electrical network, as reported by the UNE on this very day, with which the three generating blocks of that plant, located in Santa Cruz, in the western province of Mayabeque, are generating electricity.
The 3 Units of the CTE “Ernesto Guevara” in Santa Cruz del Norte, are synchronized to the National Electric System. Currently Unit #1, recently incorporated, is expanding the turbine and increasing loads.#CubaLiveAndWork #whatnosUNEinformation pic.twitter.com/DAvEc1zLU2

However, according to the official note, units 6, 7 and 8 of the CTE Máximo Gómez, the CTE unit Otto Parellada, units 4 and 5 of the CTE Diez de Octubre are currently out of service due to breakdowns. and unit 2 of the CTE Lidio Ramón Pérez.
In addition, unit 5 of the CTE Máximo Gómez is undergoing maintenance and the limitations in thermal generation (571 MW) are maintained, while in distributed generation, 1,005 MW are unavailable due to failure and 397 MW are in maintenance.
The UNE has reported power outages almost daily in the country since mid-March 2022, as noted in a news release by the agency EFE.
Since then, and until last weekend, there has been an affectation in the supply in at least 54 days, practically every day since June, according to a count made by the Spanish media itself based on company communications.
In this context, the authorities ensure that “all measures to restrict consumption in the state sector” are implemented and work is being done to stabilize the service, especially in these hot months of July and August when demand increases, while reporting daily on energy generation and demand in the country, which reflects the importance of this issue in economic and political terms.
Power outages, remember EFE, were one of the triggers for the anti-government protests last July, as part of a complex economic and social scenario in the Caribbean country. After an improvement in the winter months, the electro-energy situation has worsened in recent months, in which continuous failures in the generating plants are reported and the annoying and long blackouts have multiplied.
