The deputy medical director of the Santo Tomás Hospital, Ana Belén Araúz, reported this Monday that 90% of the patients who are hospitalized with Covid-19 in this medical unit do not have the complete immunization schedule.

Araúz recalled that the presence of the Ómicron variant is impacting the number of hospitalized patients, but that a difference is reflected in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) room.

“The behavior of fewer patients in the ICU may be the result of vaccination,” Araúz said, according to a statement from the Ministry of Health.

He specified that currently of the 89 hospitalized, there are 6 patients in the ICU.

Araúz highlighted that the main complication is occurring in patients with comorbidities, in those who have not been vaccinated or who do not have a complete schedule.

The deputy medical director of the Santo Tomás Hospital reiterated that care is maintained in outpatient appointments that were previously scheduled.

“What we have stopped is the process of giving new appointments due to the increase in Covid-19 cases, and they have begun to be scheduled between the months of March and April to give the opportunity for cases to decrease a little,” he stressed.
