55% of Bolivians have read a book in the last 12 months, according to a survey

Within the framework of the International Book Day that is celebrated this Saturday, the polling company Captura Consulting carried out a study with the aim of know the literary preferences that households have from Santa Cruz, La Paz, El Alto and Cochabamba.

The survey had only two questions. The first was whether they had read a book in the last 12 months and the second was to select their favorite literary category.

In the first question it was found that 55% of those surveyed had read at least one book in the last year, while 45% had not. The cities of La Paz and Cochabamba lead the list with the highest number of readers (60%), El Alto is in second place with 56% and finally Santa Cruz with 49%.

As for the favorite category, 15% of respondents said they prefer romance novels and 14% stated that they do not usually have the habit of reading.

InAmong other favorite categories were books of science fiction (13%), educational books (12%), suspense novels (11%), scientific articles (10%) and historical novels (8%).

The least chosen books at the time of reading were the stories (1%), self-improvement (1%)spiritual (0%) and drama (0%).

For the study were made 845 surveys with 95% confidence and 3.4% error, which were distributed in 300 cases in Santa Cruz, 200 cases in La Paz, 199 cases in El Alto and 146 cases in Cochabamba.

The surveys were carried out and processed from April 9 to 19, 2022. For the methodology, a online sampling at the level of the middle to upper income strata and sampling in households with face to face surveys at the level of the low-income strata.
