5-2: Boca Juniors, Clausura champion

The women’s team of Boca Juniors conquered the tournament this Sunday Closure Argentine after thrashing 5-2 a UAI Urquiza. Yamila Rodríguez, author of four goals, was the figure of the ‘Gladiators’, who had the support of some 10,000 fans at the Centennial Stadium in Quilmes.

At the moment, this match is shaping up to be the women’s game with the largest audience in history. Fabiana Vallejos put the brand-new champions ahead. Daiana Falfán and Romina Núñez cut for Urquiza.

Boca Juniors advanced to the end of the season in which it will face San Lorenzo, the winning team of the Apertura tournament. The winner, in addition to the global title, will obtain a place in the Copa Libertadores next year.

The team started this season under the leadership of Christian Meloni, who declined two months ago to lead Argentina’s U20 and U17 teams. His place was taken by Esteban Pizzi and Pablo Jerez.

In the first phase the Gladiators occupied second place behind San Lorenzo, who inflicted the only defeat on them. In the quarterfinals they beat Independiente 1-0 and in the semifinals they beat River Plate 3-0.

This is the third women’s tournament that is played under the professionalism format requiring a minimum number of contracts for the players, which has financial support from the Argentine Football Association to empower the clubs.
