245 new cases of COVID-19 and one death reported

The Ministry of Public health reports this Wednesday that the Dominican Republic accumulates a total of 1,840 active cases per COVID-19.

According to the epidemiological bulletin number 713, there are 245 new cases of people infected by the virus and a daily positivity that stands at 5.16%.

In addition, it reported a death that occurred in the last 24 hours, for which the country accumulates a total of 4,370 deaths since the start of the pandemic. Until today the lethality stands at 0.76%.

The health authorities report that during the day yesterday 6,769 tests were processed to detect the virusof these, 4,746 were performed for the first time and 2,023 for follow-up.

In relation to the hospital occupation of patients admitted with the virus145 people are in stable condition, 30 in intensive care units and 25 connected to a ventilator.

According to the official statistical document, 23.16% of the deceased suffered from hypertension and 14.49% from diabetes.

To date, 66,423 people under the age of 20 have been infected with the COVID-19as well as 2,298 health workers and 1,831 pregnant women.

Public health confirms first case of subvariant BA.2 of omicron in the country

The Ministry of Public health confirmed this Wednesday the presence in the country of the BA.2 omicron variant, also known as the sneaky Covid.

The national director of Epidemiology, Dr. Ronald Skewes, announced that of nine samples analyzed at the Dr. Defilló National Laboratory, taken between January 5 and February 16, in genomic sequencing, one turned out to be BA.2.

The infected patient is an 8-year-old boy, resident in the National District.

Vaccination in the DR

In the last report published by the Vaccine RD program, the Dominican Republic registered 15,229,197 people vaccinated.

Of the people who have received the inoculation, 7,110,411 have the first dose; 5,855,045 with both and a total of 2,207,948 with the third booster dose.
