The psychologist José Ángel Sánchez, specialist in family law and director of the Foundation for Boys, Girls and Adolescents (Fundanna) reported that during this 2022 the figures of child abuse and sexual abuse in Venezuela have increased. Only in the state of Carabobo are 2,270 cases recorded
In the last year there has been an increase in the numbers of child abuse and sexual abuse in Venezuela. Only in Carabobo 2,270 cases are counted. This was reported by the psychologist José Ángel Sánchez, specialist in family law and director of the Foundation for Boys, Girls and Adolescents (Fundanna)during a press conference offered in the Plaza El Carabobeño in the municipality of Naguanagua.
According to the investigations carried out by Fundanna-Carabobo, most of the acts are committed by people or relatives close to the minor’s social environment.

Sánchez affirmed that, to date, one month before the end of 2022, cases have increased by 65%. “These cases are being investigated and prosecuted by the Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP), given that the situation has been dealt with in a timely manner,” he said.
The psychologist José Ángel Sánchez reported that the organization has dealt with 1,830 cases of family placement (absence of parents); 1,245 for mistreatment and cruel treatment, 945 cases for adolescent criminal responsibility and 300 for bullying. Sánchez affirmed that there are irregular cases where the mothers of the victims do not denounce the aggressor because they are part of the family nucleus and recalled that the Public Ministry (MP) charges to the mothers for the crime of complicity.
«There are continuous sexual assaults because the aggressor, not being discovered, continues the abuse for years. We have cases of 16-year-old adolescents who have been abused since they were 7 years old,” he said.
The director of Fundanna considers that it is necessary to create new public policies that allow finding a solution to this problem. “We need a system that guarantees advice to teachers on the Law for the Protection of Boys, Girls and Adolescents, because many of them do not know how to act in these cases.”
Finally, Sánchez mentioned three important factors that must be taken into account:
1. You should never doubt what the child says.
2. Do not victimize children, that is, do not question too much.
3. The serious mistake is not reporting.
