Resolve the whereabouts of the Ayotzinapa normalistas
The whereabouts of the 43 students from Ayotzinapa are still pending. Commitment 89 of the 100 made by the president on December 1, 2018 states that “the truth will be known and those responsible will be punished.”
Four years after that commitment, progress has been made, such as new lines of investigation and arrest warrants, however, the whereabouts of the young people remain unknown.
2022 was a hectic year for research. Weeks before the eighth anniversary of the disappearance of the young people, the undersecretary Alejandro Encinas presented a report in which he revealed that there were no indications that the young people were alive and made public that there were alleged screenshots with alleged conversations between members of organized crime, in which details of what happened were given.
83 arrest warrants were also issued against those allegedly involved in the case, including 20 against military commanders and troop personnel from the 27th and 41st battalions in the city of Iguala. Days later it was revealed that at the request of the Attorney General of the Republic (FGR) they were requested to withdraw 21 of which 16 were against the military, accused of organized crime.
One of the orders that did come into effect was against the former Attorney General of the Republic, Jesús Murillo Karam, who is still in prison.
decrease violence
Although the year is expected to close with a reduction in intentional homicides, violence remains a challenge for President López Obrador, since his six-year term is projected to be the most violent in recent years.
Halfway through the year, the 120,463 violent deaths that occurred during the six-year term of PAN member Felipe Calderón Hinojosa were exceeded, when the so-called war against drug trafficking began.
Between December 1, 2018 and November 30, 2022, 137,895 intentional homicides and femicides were registered.
This administration is 18,105 homicides away from reaching the 156,000 violent deaths that were registered during the entire administration of Enrique Peña Nieto.
