Students from La Plata won this Wednesday 2-0 against the Chilean Audax Italian and, in this way, managed to reverse the 1-0 achieved by the Chilean team in the first leg, to access the third preliminary phase of the Libertadores Cupwhere it will be measured against Everton, also from Chile.
Agustín Rogel, in the last minute of the first half, and Leandro Díaz, in the 85th minute, converted the goals in an intense match in which the tension was maintained until the last minute of play.
The Platense team led by Ricardo Zielinski came out determined to reverse the series and seek with intensity to bring danger to Joaquín Muñoz’s area, who was largely responsible for keeping his door clean with three key interventions.
In the first fifteen minutes Audax Italiano had two clear ones to increase the advantage at the feet first of Lautaro Palacios and then of Germán Estigarribia. When it seemed that the two teams would go into the break 0-0, the Uruguayan Agustín Rogel headed a corner with an accurate blow that overcame Muñoz’s resistance.
At the start of the second half, Mauro Boselli managed to score after five minutes after a rebound by the visiting goalkeeper, but the scorer was in an advanced position sanctioned by the Brazilian referee Witon Pereira Sampaio.
In the 69th minute, the admitted Franco Zapiola crashed a shot on the crossbar. The last minutes were of mutual caution because both knew that a mistake could mark the elimination.
In minute 84, Manuel Castro hurried another corner kick, overcame the defense and found a Leandro Díaz who pushed the ball into the net and unleashed the delirium of the more than 30,000 supporters who filled the stands of the Jorge Luis Hirschi stadium.
With this victory, Estudiantes de La Plata will meet Everton, who has just eliminated the Venezuelan Monagas, for a place in the group stage of the Copa Libertadores.
