142 people died from fires in the last three years

In the last three years 142 people died in Uruguay for firesY there are seven, in 2022, as reported this Friday by the National Director of Firefighters, Ricardo Riaño. Also, more than 365 people are treated for poisoning.

Firefighters presented a prevention campaign which they called “It never happens until it happens to you”. According to Riaño, fires caused by human carelessness are a “recurring situation”Therefore, the Fire Department seeks to “raise awareness” among the population about the uses, for example, of heating equipmentin the cold times of the year.

“We bet on a cultural change. We aim to make people aware, “said the hierarch in statements to the press.

“It’s a matter of seconds, in daily events, and that no one is safe from the fact that it can’t happen to them”, indicated, for its part, an official statement about the campaign, whose launch was made in the morning hours by of various fire authorities and the Ministry of the Interior.

In this sense, they recommended checking the condition of the heating equipment, not using extension cords or chargers (using a single outlet), cleaning the chimney duct of each wood-burning stove, using a spark plug, not hanging clothes near stoves or heaters, not use flammable liquids, among other warnings.
