The Moquegua region has registered up to ten aftershocks in a row after registering a magnitude 5.4 tremor at 18:36 pm this Tuesday, July 12, in the district of Omate, province of General Sanchez Cerro (Moquegua), reported the Geophysical Institute of Peru (IGP).
According to the institution’s report, the telluric movement occurred 41 kilometers west of Omate, province of General Sanchez Cerro, with a depth of 18 km.
Following this, 10 aftershocks were recorded with magnitudes ranging from 3.4 to 4.4 degrees. All in less than two hours and west of Omate, in the province of General Sanchez Cerro.
Although the local authorities of the National Institute of Civil Defense (Indeci) have not yet reported personal or material damage due to the earthquake, the Moqueguan population has reported their fear through social networks.
These earthquakes have also been felt in neighboring provinces and even in the regions of Arequipa, Ica and Tacna.
