“According to what the people who were on the bus told us, they were traveling to the United States in order to seek a better future,” Barrios declared.

He indicated that the injured were transferred to El Playón and many were sent to Bucaramanga due to the complexity of the injuries.

“Communications with the accident site are very bad and we still don’t know who the people who lost their lives are. They tell us that there are about 10 deaths, that is what we know so far,” the mayor concluded.

The accident occurred at 5:00 am at a time when the bus was traveling at kilometer 58+691 meters of the road between Bucaramanga and San Alberto, in the jurisdiction of the municipality of El Playón, Santander.
