1-0: El León, to the quarterfinals

The Lion Mexican won this Tuesday at home by 1-0 at Guastatoya Guatemalan to win the round of 16 series 3-0 and confirm himself in the quarterfinals of the Concacaf Champions League.

In the second leg of the round of 16, León, led by Argentine coach Ariel Holan, won by a goal by Elías Hernández, which was added to the two that the team from the Mexican Bajío scored last Wednesday in the first leg in Guatemala.

Holan’s pupils will meet in the quarterfinals the winner of the series between the Seattle Sounders of MLS and Motagua of Honduras, which will be defined this Thursday.

León dominated the first half against a Guastatoya who lacked depth and daring to come back from the tie. On his first shot, the Lion opened the scoring. In the 11th minute, the Argentine Santiago Colombatto put a long pass from midfield to Elías Hernández, who entered the area from the right wing and made it 1-0 with three fingers.

The goal did not make Guastatoya react, who came close to conceding another goal in the 22nd minute when Gil Burón shot on goal, but goalkeeper Adrián De Lemos parried.

Holan’s men stopped attacking in the second half, while Guastatoya improved. In the 56th minute, Rubén Morales headed a ball that went near a post and in the 62nd minute, Luis Ángel Landín shot, but the León goalkeeper, Rodolfo Cota, saved his goal.
