Zuzana Hejnova, former 400m hurdles world champion, retires

The Czech Zuzana Hejnova, 35 years old and former double world champion in the 400m hurdles, announced her retirement from sports on Tuesday, as she is pregnant.

“I’m going to have a child with my partner. It would be difficult to reconcile everything,” explained Hejnova, world champion in 2013 and 2015 and bronze medalist at the 2012 Olympics.

“I have achieved a great career, now I must assume another role,” added the athlete, weighed down by injuries in recent years.
