Zoilamérica Ortega Murillo: “Monsignor Álvarez inspires us, guides us even if they try to humiliate him”

The daughter of Rosario Murillo, Zoilamérica Ortega Murillo, assured that the example of Monsignor Rolando Álvarez, bishop of the Diocese of Matagalpa and prisoner of conscience of the Ortega Murillo regime, “inspires and guides” the Nicaraguan people and that the dictatorship tries to “humiliate” them. » by locking him up in a jail for common prisoners.

“Monsignor (Rolando) Álvarez, and the Pope said so, has challenged with something very important, a weapon that is invincible: his testimony. He is aware that he inspires us, guides us, and therefore having someone who is a spiritual guide of the resistance prisoner is something unsustainable,” Murillo’s daughter said in an interview with Republica 18.

The Nicaraguan regime has kept Bishop Álvarez in prison since February 9, when he refused to be exiled to the United States. That day Ortega sent 222 political prisoners on a plane. In addition, he took away their Nicaraguan nationality.

“This attempt to imprison him in a prison for common criminals is intended to humiliate him, is intended, as has been said, to take away his dignity,” he said.

“We know that he who humbles himself exalts himself and that every act of depriving Monsignor Álvarez of his stature as a Nicaraguan, as a citizen and also as a Christian, is only making him an example of hope for all of us,” added Zoilamérica Ortega Murillo.

One day after refusing to be exiled, on February 10, he was subjected to an express summary trial where he was sentenced to 26 years in prison and the seizure of his Nicaraguan nationality. Since that day his family has not been able to see him and his state of health and where he is being held in the hands of the Ortega Murillo dictatorship are unknown.
