The technician Dorival Junior announced this Saturday that he is leaving the flamencobecause the management of the carioca club has “decided that it is a time for changes”, despite the fact that this year the Rio de Janeiro team once again won the Copa Libertadores.
“Thank you very much for the way I was received at this club. I tried to do the best, among all that was possible, to win two titles,” said the coach in a video posted on his social networks this morning.
In this way, he alluded to the Copa do Brasil and the Copa Libertadores, which Flamengo won since he took over the reins of the team on June 10.
Dorival leaves Flamengo with a record of 26 wins, eight draws and nine losses and a fifth position in the Brazilian Championship, which ended this month.
The coach brought order to a club full of stars, such as Gabriel Barbosa “Gabigol”, the Uruguayan Giorgian De Arrascaeta and the Chilean Arturo Vidal, among many others, and which has experienced a period of instability since, under the baton of the Portuguese Jorge Jesús , won the 2019 Libertadores.
After the departure of the Portuguese coach, in a period of two years the Spanish Domènec Torrent, the Brazilians Rogério Ceni and Renato Gaúcho and the Portuguese Paulo Sousa passed through the Flamengo bench, all without shame or glory.
They would be negotiating with Vítor Pereira
According to versions of the local press, not yet confirmed by the club, Flamengo is already negotiating the incorporation of the Portuguese coach Vítor Pereira, who last season led Corinthians, who finished fourth in the Brazilian Championship.
Dorival’s departure has been announced at a time when Flamento is waiting for FIFA to define the venue and dates for the next Club World Cup.
In this tournament, the Rio de Janeiro team will participate as champion of the Libertadores, together with Real Madrid, winner of the European Champions League. The champions of North America, Africa and Oceania will also participate, which are respectively the American Seattle Sounders, the Moroccan Wydad Casablanca and the New Zealand Auckland City.
