Who can take the lead?
With “El Chapo”, “El Mayo”, “El Ratón” and “El Güero” arrested, the Sinaloa Cartel will not be left without a leader. An organization prepares for the possibility that one of its leaders is arrested, and when this is not the case, there is a dispute for control, explains the expert.
“It is not going to have any impact because you have to look at what happened when ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán was captured the last time and was extradited, it had no impact on the Sinaloa Cartel. So, the capture of one person is not going to damage the infrastructure of the Sinaloa Cartel, this is a victory for the rule of law, but it is not going to have any impact on the Sinaloa Cartel because there is going to be someone who is going to take the place of El Mayo Zambada,” said Mike Vigil, former DEA agent, in an interview with Formula Radio.
The leadership of the organization can be assumed by Aureliano Guzman, the brother of “El Chapo”, either Ivan Archivaldo Salazar, head of “Los Chapitos,” the sons of the former leader of the Sinaloa Cartel, sentenced to life imprisonment in the United States.
Although, the expert also points out, that they can be “El Mayo’s” own children will take over the organization.
“For some time now, ‘El Mayo’ Zambada began to delegate to his sons: ‘El Mayito Flaco’ and ‘El Mayito Gordo’, the activity that was under his responsibility, as if he was preparing for his retirement,” Saucedo adds.
His assessments confirm that criminal organisations are expected to continue despite Thursday’s arrests.
