The Chancellor of the Republic, Yván Gil, highlighted the importance of the role played by the working class in the country, especially in these moments of imperial threat, which is why he assured that this union is at the forefront in defense of sovereignty and peace.
«What is seen by the working class is not an expression of solidarity, but of the involvement of the working class that is coming to the front at this time. We have seen it in this congress to defend peace, sovereignty, to build independence and also to build that necessary network of union organizations, of workers at the regional level, in Latin America and the Caribbean and beyond,” said Gil.
Regarding the Latin American and Caribbean Congress of the Working Class in Defense of Peace, the chancellor specified that the region is united, in the face of the military deployment of the United States in the Caribbean, which seeks to take over the natural resources of Venezuela.
“Today, Venezuela and Latin America are being threatened with the deployment of military ships, with verbal threats, when they have even dared to say that Venezuela’s natural resources do not belong to Venezuelans, but belong to other countries,” he denounced.
The chancellor also explained that representatives from more than 60 countries are participating in this congress, including the US and Europe. “The representatives of the working class of the world firmly express their solidarity with Venezuela and Latin America in the face of attempts to dispossess their natural resources, organizing to strengthen independence and consolidate networks of international cooperation.”
For his part, the head of the International Commission of the Latin American Congress, Francisco Torrealba, stressed that the working class demands firm respect for the right of people to be free, sovereign and independent. “This meeting constitutes a space to reject war and promote peace as a fundamental principle and defend its resources.”
The delegates agreed that the policies of imperial aggression against Venezuela seek to appropriate its wealth. In response, Congress consolidates itself as a platform of unity and resistance against actions that threaten the self-determination of nations.
