The increase in egg smuggling has been disturbing Tachirenses producers, to the point that both public organizations and the media go, in search of a prompt solution to the problem.
In this regard, Yuvan Rosales, president of Asoprohuevos, offered statements to the Radio Nation, where he stressed that it is an unfair competition, since on the Colombian side there are greater advantages in terms of costs and financing.
– five thousand people directly and about 25 thousand people indirectly, in about 200 farms throughout the Táchira state, between small, medium and large producers, there are serious risks in the face of the entry of Colombian eggs, by San Antonio, Ureña and La Fría, “said Rosales.
He stressed that the impact of smuggling not only includes Táchira, since it even goes to states to the interior of the national territory. Above all difficulties, Rosales notes that the sector has grown by 200 percent in two years, and this is a sample that you want to contribute for the good of the country and the State.
– While it is true we until about two years ago we had a production of more than 270 thousand eggs per day, which was insufficient for the consumption of the Tachirens, we made a great effort to grow more than one million eggs daily, and that makes us self -sufficient for the Tachirense market. The production costs of eggs in the Táchira are far superior to the Colombian egg, which in the end is reflected in the final price of the product, which from the other side of the border is somewhat economical.
– In comments through social networks they tell us that we must produce cheaper, but we do not have credit policies, and everything has been for tenacity, due to the resilience of the producers, and by wanting to continue in the country and the state. We are threatened by smuggling, ”he said.
This Monday, representatives of the egg producing sector were present at the Zodi-Táchira, where an encounter with the military authorities for Tuesday was established, in which they would present all the evidence of the illegal smuggling activities, which Rosales calculates covers 50 percent of the Tachirense market.
