Yubrank Suazo suffered extreme siege since May 15, affirms the Civic Alliance

The Civic Alliance for Justice and Democracy (ACJD) denounced that the current political prisoner Yubrank Suazo had been the victim of “siege, harassment and intimidation” since May 15. The opponent was arrested “in a violent manner” in the early hours of May 18.

Suazo was transferred to the Judicial Assistance Directorate (DAJ) in Managua, known as “El Nuevo Chipote”, according to information published by the Nicaraguan Center for Human Rights (Cenidh), but his physical condition is still unknown. The Cenidh pointed out that Suazo was arrested at 5:15 in the morning.

“We denounce the siege, harassment and intimidation by this parastatal agent, in front of the house of our member’s family. We stand in solidarity with Yubrank and his family for this act that violates their human rights,” the Alliance said on social media.

Suazo remarked that the paramilitary was mobilized on a red motorcycle. The objective was to monitor the house of the opponent’s parents and the San Juan Bautista de Masaya parish where the priest Harving Padilla has denounced the presence of police and riot police outside the temple during the day and night.

In an interview with this media outlet, lawyer Yonarqui Martínez said that the activist’s father, Wilfredo Suazo, was kicked just like Yubrank. His mother, Ana Julia Herrera, is in very poor health and is receiving medical care.

“Let us remember that Yubrank was arrested in 2018 and was in maximum security cells in La Modelo, he was beaten and when he was released he was never allowed to be at home. He walked from one place to another to be safe », said the defender. Before being arrested, Suazo told Article 66 that he was in Nicaragua and that he would continue to denounce the abuses of the Daniel Ortega dictatorship.

Martínez does not rule out that the member of the opposition Civic Alliance be banished, as happened with Nicaraguan singers who were arrested in April and later expelled from Nicaragua. “Let us remember that the last detainees —the artists Salvador Espinoza, Xóchitl Tapia, Josué Monroy, Leonardo Canales— were not prosecuted but were exiled from their country,” the jurist indicated.
