Between January and June 2022, Yacimientos Petroliferos Fiscales Bolivianos (YPFB) invoiced more than $160 million for the commercialization of granulated urea to the internal and external markets, informed the president of the state oil company, Armin Dorgathen Tapia, quoted by an institutional note from the state company.

The official report maintains that this period mentioned, 273,688 metric tons of fertilizer were delivered by YPFB to both markets. 15% of this amount was destined to supply the domestic market and 85% was sold to export markets.

“The plant has the best technology in South America and this means that our urea is highly required by the markets of Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay. Apart from this, we give priority to the domestic market, whether for gas or for urea.Dorgathen said.

The Argentine and Brazilian markets were the main destinations for the urea produced in the petrochemical complex, despite the fact that these countries are also fertilizer producers.

Fertilizer prices are adjusted periodically, so it has been possible to take advantage of the international context to obtain higher income.

95.9% of the urea sold in the domestic market is withdrawn from the petrochemical complex located in the town of Bulo Bulo, belonging to the municipality of Entre Ríos, Carrasco province, Cochabamba department.

Since its reactivation in September 2021, the production of the “Marcelo Quiroga Santa Cruz” Ammonia and Urea Plant has maintained a stable production. The production capacity used in June was 80%.

The demand for urea in the region and in the world is growing, as a result of the increase in crops generated by the need to produce food. Between the 5th and the 22nd of this month, scheduled maintenance will be carried out at the petrochemical complex in order to achieve greater efficiency and a constant production of the fertilizer.

The Ammonia and Urea Plant has an optimal storage system to collect finished product, therefore, YPFB guarantees the delivery of the product to both markets while this scheduled maintenance is carried out.

Urea is the most recognized and most important nitrogenous fertilizer worldwide. Bolivian fertilizer competes with products from other continents that reach the countries of the region in transoceanic ships.
