Bolivian Fiscal Oil Deposits (YPFB) clarified that in November 2022, the Mayaya Centro-X1 (MYC-X1 IE) stratigraphic research well (IE) will be drilled “for the first time”, for which it did not recognize the official act that in July 2019, during the last administration of Evo Morales, also began the exploratory drilling of the same hydrocarbon project.

The event was reported by public and private media and even by the state oil company itself, which in a press release released on that date indicated: “With a total investment of US$76.8 million, Yacimientos Petroliferos Fiscales Bolivianos began drilling the Mayaya Centro-X1 stratigraphic research well (IE) on Monday. (MYC-X1 IE) in the Lliquimuni area, reported the president of the state oil company at the time, Óscar Barriga Arteaga”.

The top executive of YPFB provided this information in the official act in which Morales and the then Minister of Hydrocarbons, Luis Alberto Sánchez, participated.

“In this management (2022) minor adjustments were made, considering the reevaluation of the surface coordinate that were necessary during the review of the projectprior to its execution by the National Management of Exploration and Exploitation”, said the state company in the statement sent yesterday.

The state detailed that awarded the civil works to a company in early February 2022 and that the project was socialized with the communities in the area of ​​influence between February 25 and March 24, 2022. Once the socialization was completed, the contractor began the road construction and ironing work on March 28, 2022.

In accordance with current regulations, environmental licenses are granted per project (for a period of 10 years), therefore, it was not necessary to obtain a new environmental license. for the drilling of said well”, cites the document.

The prospective project, in charge of the National Management of Exploration and Exploitation (operational arm of YPFB), is located in the Alto Beni municipality, belonging to the Caranavi province of the department of La Paz. Its objective is to investigate the stratigraphy of the sedimentary column and to evaluate the hydrocarbon potential of Carboniferous and Devonian formations.
