In an interview, the general director of Afore Coppel, Juan Manuel Valle Pereña, assures that one of the reasons why Afore clients are the ones who make the most withdrawals is because of the network of more than 1,600 branches that are deployed in the country. since most of its users are young.
“Normally young clients, if (companies) have to lay off, it is easier for them to do so. You have a natural bias towards it being a population that can be fired in necessary cases. It affects us because we have more young people among our clients. “, emphasizes the director.
“I would love it if we didn’t have unemployment withdrawals, that would speak very well of the economic prospects of employment, of the situation of young people, but hey, that doesn’t depend on what we do.”
Inegi data indicates that at the end of 2021, almost 713,000 Mexicans between 15 and 24 years of age were unemployed. The figure is less than the 740,000 unemployed young people at the end of 2020.
Valle comments that between 10% and 20% of the clients who withdraw money for unemployment do return it so that their pension is not affected, since when making withdrawals for this concept, weeks of contributions and resources whose destination are for people’s pension.
With the pandemic and the great demand for unemployment withdrawals, Afore Coppel had to accelerate its investments in digital matters via an app. Valle said that between 60 and 70 million pesos have been invested since 2019.
The manager says that the robotization of the processes will continue to be more efficient, although he did not detail the amount to be invested in 2023.
Regarding the impact on the reduction of commissions as of this year, Afore Coppel says that the effect has been less compared to other administrators thanks to this digitization strategy.
