Youth Baseball: Veraguas defeats Panama Metro and they get into a fight

Right-handed pitcher Javier Reina worked 6.0 good innings and struck out 12 in tremendous pitching work, guiding Veraguas to a 7-run, 2-run win over Metro in the regular round game of the LIV National Youth Baseball Championship, Copa Caja de Ahorros in honor of Magaly Medina, played at the Omar Torrijos stadium in Santiago.

Reina in her work on Wednesday night, she allowed just 4 hits, with 2 runs, 1 of them clean, with 3 walks and 12 fans, to assume the victory. Marcos Pimentel worked the rest of the game to score the save. The metropolitan left-handed starter Christopher Cuevas loses the game, who only walked 4.2 innings, allowing 5 runs, all dirty.

The Indians trailed 1-0 in the bottom of the fifth when they exploded with a 6-run cluster, turning the score around and giving Reina the necessary runs to get the win. With this result, Veraguas squeezes in the standings and gets close in the classification zone.

Both teams had 7 hits, but the metrillos made 4 costly errors, while Veraguas’ defense was much better with only 1 error.

Jesús Muñoz gave 3-3, with 2 scored, Alfonso Pinto 3-1, Carlos Quintero 4-1 with 2 trailers, were the best for Veraguas, while for Metro, Iván Castillo stood out 1-1, Marco Villamonte from 3-1 and José Azcarate from 2-1.

Bocas del Toro asserts its home…

Bocas del Toro won again this Wednesday night and has turned Calvin Byron’s “Nido de La Tortuga” into a true cauldron for his rivals, this time taking a great victory of 9 runs by 5 over the current champions of the ball criolla, the Colts of Panama East.

Johan Downer went 3-5 and his teammates Héctor Rayo, Jael Escobar and Edwin Waldin 2-4 each, to command Bocas del Toro, who collectively had a night of 13 hits, to set the tone in the commitment.

Bocas and Este were tied at 3 runs in 6.0 innings, but in the eighth the Colts scored 2 runs and Bocas reacted in the bottom of that same inning with 6 runs, enough to win the game.

The victory is assumed by reliever Francisco Araúz who worked 4.2 innings of relief, replacing starter Einar Díaz on the mound. Joel González loses the relay of the Colts who assumed the 6 runs, 5 of them clean.

For the Colts, Joey Wood stood out from 5-2 and Derek Pinto from 4-3.

Cowboys win in the West

In western lands, the Western Panama Cowboys got an important victory on the way to qualifying for the next phase, 4 runs to 2 with great work by left-hander Oscar Vélez against Occidente in a match of the LIV National Youth Championship, Caja de Ahorros Cup.

Vélez in his work walked 5.0 good episodes, with 2 hits, 1 score, which was dirty, with 3 tickets and 5 strikeouts, to be the winner of the commitment. Diorkis Núñez came in relief and in 4.0 innings he kept Occidente at bay and scored a save.

Carlos Bethancourth went 3-5 with 1 RBI and Jeremy Sánchez 1-2 to be the best for the West.

In other results, Coclé beat Chiriquí at the Kenny Serracín 11 runs to 7 in a game where the “Leña Roja” hit 13 hits, highlighting Roderick Lezcano who went 6-4 with 4 scored and Joaquín Gamba 4-2 with 4 towed.

Herrera beat Colón, 7 runs for 2 and placed fourth in the standings, in this game Julio Casas went 3-2 with a home run and 2 RBIs, to be selected the Player of the Day on Wednesday’s day January 18.

And in another commitment, Los Santos beat Darién 11 runs to 6 in a game played at the Roberto Hernández de las Tablas stadium and where the Santeño troops dispatched 15 hits.

Today’s games…
On the day of this Thursday, January 19, only one game will be played, which has been rescheduled between the teams from Panama Este and Chiriquí, at the Kenny Serracín, starting at 1:00 p.m.
