Coclé’s ninth team overwhelmed Panama Metro with 14 runs to 1 in seven innings to win their series 4 games to 1 and advance to the semifinals of the Youth Baseball Championship where they will face Herrera’s team.
The Coclesanos scored 9 times in the second inning to ensure the match that was always under complete control.
Joaquín Gamba went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored, while Roderick Lezcano, Juan Rosas, Nelson Guerra and Tomás Sarmiento each drove in two runs.
Derek Gómez was the winning pitcher by working the entire route, in seven innings he allowed six hits, one run, fanned out eight and walked one.
Now Coclé will face Herrera in the semifinals while waiting for the official match schedule.
Bocas take advantage in their series
The Bocas del Toro offense scored four times in the first three innings and Jorge Quiel had an exceptional job on the mound for the Bocatoreños to defeat Chiriquí 7 runs to 2 and take advantage of the Round of 8 of the Youth Baseball Championship 3 games to 2.
Quiel pitched 8.2 innings where he only allowed three hits, two runs, striking out three and gave two walks to secure an important victory in Bocas del Toro’s aspirations to advance to the next round.
The best on offense for the Bocatoreños were Héctor Rayo 5-1 with an RBI and a run scored; Keynor Forcheny went 3 for 5 with an RBI and a run run; while Carlos Quiel went 2-5 with an RBI and a run scored.
This Friday, February 3, Bocas del Toro receives Chiriquí in the sixth game of the series at Calvin Byron, if the Chiricanos win they would be forcing a seventh and decisive game, if the Bocatoreños win they would be advancing to the Youth Baseball semifinals.
