Youth Baseball: Bocas came from behind to win in Santiago and Metro recovers at home

The Bocas del Toro team came from behind and won dramatically, while Panama Metro recovered at home and got its first win of the season, all this on the third date of the National Youth Baseball Championship, Copa Caja de Ahorros in honor of to Magaly Medina.

Bocas is still intractable

The Bocas del Toro troop won again this Sunday night, this time as a visitor against Veraguas, 7 runs to 6 in a match played at the Omar Torrijos stadium in the city of Santiago.

The “Tortugueros” lost 6 runs for 2 when 7.0 complete innings were played, but in the top of the eighth they made 4 runs to tie the game and 1 more in the ninth to seal the victory with a great comeback.

Bocas del Toro only gave 4 hits, all timely, with a solid defense of 1 error on the field and took advantage of the rival who made 6 errors and hit 8 unstoppable shots on the field.

The game was won by Francisco Araúz, fifth of seven pitchers used by the team and lost by Alexander Rodríguez, last of six pitchers used by Veraguas.

The best at bats for Bocas were Jael Escobar 3-1, Hector Rayo 3-1, Edwin Waldin 4-1 and Keynor Forchiney 4-1. For Veraguas Eduardo Bolívar 3-2, Juan Rujano 1-1 and Juan Castillo 3-1.

Panama Metro 6, Colon 4

Panama Metro resurfaced at home after two losses at the start of the season and won a category 6 runs for 4 win over the “Beep Beep” of Colón in a game this Sunday at Rod Carew.

The metropolitans scored 2 runs in the bottom of the first inning, 1 in the bottom of the fourth, 2 in the fifth and another one in the seventh with 10 hits and 2 field errors. Colón scored 3 in the top of the first and 1 in the fourth with 7 hits and no errors.

Roberto Domínguez wins the game, who worked 5.2 innings in relief action, replacing the starter Adrian Ardines. Dominguez, the second of four Metro pitchers, pitched for 2 hits, no runs, 2 walks and 4 strikeouts.

Lose the match, Edwin Montenegro for Colón.

The best at bats for Metro were Joshua Cedeño 5-3 with 2 runs scored and Omar Reluz 5-4 with 2 RBIs, while for Colón Omar Ortega 5-1 and Alan McClean 4-2 stood out.

West 3, Herrera 11

Abdiel Alonso went 4-3 with 3 trailers and his Herrera team is still intractable in the LIV National Youth Championship, Caja de Ahorros Cup, after beating Occidente at Claudio Nieto de Monagrillo, 11 runs to 3.

Alonso, a veteran of youth baseball, scored one and was key to the offense that tonight as a team dispersed 10 hits and played with a great defense without errors. Occidente gave 5 isolated hits and made 2 errors on defense.

Emanuel Herrera wins the game, who had a great start as a starter, with 97 pitches, 61 in the good zone, after 7.0 good innings, with 5 hits allowed, 3 runs, 2 earned, 3 walks and 12 fanned out.

Lost commitment Jeziel Santamaría, first of three pitchers from the West.

The best at bats for Herrera were Luis Rivera 5-1, César García 3-1, Adilio Saavedra 4-2 with 3 runs scored and a home run and Didier Fuentes 3-2. For the West, Yeremy Lezcano 3-1 and Alexander Chávez 4-1 stood out.

Leña Roja keeps winning

Coclé’s “Leña Roja” won its third game on the road and returns home with a great record, after beating Panama East on Sunday night 13 runs to 1 at the José De La Luz Thompson stadium in Chepo.

Xavier Aguilar worked in great shape during 5.0 good innings, with 4 hits allowed, a run that was earned, 3 walks and 4 strikeouts to win. The opener of the “Potros” Ronaldo Falcón loses the match.

Coclé attacked early with a run in the top of the third inning, 6 in the top of the sixth and had 9 in the ninth to take advantage of the cluster of 13 hits on offense and 2 errors defense. The champions of Panama East only made 1 in the bottom of the third inning.

Enrique Agrazal hit his second home run of the championship, giving 1 hit in 5 turns and with 2 RBIs to be one of the best at bats, also highlighting Iverson Allen 4-2 with tubey and a couple of trailers, Joaquín Gamba 4-2 and Luis Escudero 5-2 with 3 RBIs.

For the “Colts” stood out Jay Wood from 4-2 with a double and Darren Rodríguez from 3-1.

Chiriquí wins in the “Skinny Bala”

Chiriquí had a victory on the road at the Roberto Hernández stadium in the city of Las Tablas, 10 runs to 5, and recovered from a setback in Changuinola, to be back in the round of winners of the LIV National Youth Baseball Championship, Copa Caja savings.

Cluster of 5 runs at the top of the sixth was forceful for Chiriquí to ensure the commitment, also scoring 1 at the top of the second, 1 at the top of the fourth, another in the seventh, eighth and ninth.

The Chiricanos had 11 hits in the game with 3 errors. Los Santos had 6 hits with 2 errors, with one run in the bottom of the fourth, another in the fifth, one in the sixth and 2 more in the ninth.

Kevin Contreras, second of 4 pitchers used, wins the game and loses it to left-hander Ángel Soriano, starter for Los Santos.

For Chiriquí Jorge Rodríguez gave 4-1, Héctor Bozzi 5-2 and Álvaro Ríos 5-3 with 2 RBIs.

In another result, the Vaqueros de Oeste won for the third time in the contest, this time against Darién 12 runs to 2.
